Initial Ideas

Overview of music video idea (this could include potential song choices and initial ideas)

Song Choice; Wires – The Neighbourhood

Shot in Black and White with colour returning at the end

Tv always in shot displaying either news footage or a character trying to persuade the protagonist to join them in the corrupt world

Industrial buildings and sheds will represent the corruption of the world and the forests will represent freedom and escape.

At the end the tv will either be sledgehammered or set alight to signify the protagonist breaking free from the corruption and colour will return to the video.

Raining on the industrial streets and woods. Brooding tone.

Shots looking up at the trees blowing in the wind

Occasional glitching in the video (screen flicker, screen tearing, etc.)

*bit ambitious* someone strung up in a shed posed like a puppet symbolising a previous artist who has been corrupted and is now under the corporate control. Their face will be bandaged to show lack of their own personality.

Or

Strung up from a branch in the forest if a warehouse is unobtainable

Guitar being thrown off a cliff and shattering on the ground below to show the creativity and identity of the previous artist being lost

What sort of music video is it? (eg: Performance/narrative/mixed approach)

Mainly Narrative, focusing on the protagonist’s resistance against the corruption.

Tell me more about your video and why it will work well for this song

The black and white colour pallet will fit the tone of the songs (moody, slow-paced and melancholic)

The themes of Wires are corruption within the music industry and how up and coming artists often have to metaphorically “sell their souls” to be promoted more and to achieve fame,

What kinds of genre conventions would we expect to see? What existing music videos or media texts will you be taking your inspiration from?

Ever Present Tv was inspired by the music video for Garbage Day by Rare Americans

The person strung up in a warehouse is from the Greek Tragedy music video but the meaning behind it will be different, mine being about corporations and Greek Tragedy relating to the fans impact on a bands image/actions.

Melancholic music is often accompanied by black and white videos with rainy aesthetics to reflect the tone of the music.

How will your music video fulfil the requirements of the NEA brief?

It will feature a down on his look artist who is being coerced into joining this really restrictive organisation by a well-dressed corporate representative, so it will represent the two social classes of the rich businessman manipulating the down on his look artist.

Who is the audience for your band/artist/music video? What do they like, do? What sort of attitudes, values and beliefs might they have and how will your video reflect these?

Tell me about the equipment, personnel and locations you are going to need to create this.

Old CRT Tv, Warehouse or Large Shed,

A woods (Ravensnest Woods in Ashover)

*If not for travel restrictions* – Streets lined with industrial buildings to represent the corporate world

(Continued)

What sort of organisational tasks will you do to make sure you can achieve this?

Scout locations for filming and devise a shot list/storyboard based upon the locations

What issues or challenges do you predict facing when making this video?

Covid-19 will create issues especially if we go into Tier 3 as we will not be able to meet with anyone from another household.

Setting fire to a CRT TV could be dangerous if the correct safety measures aren’t taken.

How will your website link to these ideas? What extra content may you have on your website? How will the artist be promoted and/or represented?

The website will fit the tone of the video and will feature shots of the band as well as album artwork. May also include visualettes.
